Oil and Gas - Upstream Market
PPC services the Oil and Gas upstream market. This market segment primarily focused on conventional and unconventional oil and gas development and initial production. Our hard surfacing (primarily Tungsten Carbide) welded overlays are used in many downhole applications.
Typical applications include Tungsten Carbide PTA weld overlays of Down-hole tools, Centralizers, Stabilizers, Couplings, Drill Bits, Drill Collars, Sleeves and Chokes. PPC has also completed shop and field painting and coating projects for Oil and Gas clients at Gas Plants and Oil Batteries. Our Edmonton location and mobile blasting and coating rigs position us well to effectively service this market in Western Canada.
Oil Sands and Minerals Mining
One of the biggest engineering challenges for most mining applications is addressing the high wear encountered in their crushing and ore transport plants and facilities. In order to process the ore body, it must be broken down (sized) and transported to the process facility. PPC’s proven Tungsten Carbide welded overlay is one of the hardest surfaces that can be applied on this equipment.
Typical applications include Tungsten Carbide PTA weld overlays of Tailings Line Pipe Spools, Impact Screens, Sizing Screens, Wear Plates, Bucket Teeth, Crusher Teeth, Under Carriage Components, Crusher Teeth Holders, Ice Lugs, Thermal Wells, Spools adjacent to Pumps, and Valve Plugs and Seats.
Oil and Gas Pipelines – Midstream Market
The midstream sector involves the transportation (by pipeline, rail, barge, oil tanker or truck), storage, and wholesale marketing of crude or refined petroleum products. In the midstream sector, PPC is an approved applicator for many pipeline operators including but not limited to Enbridge, Inter-Pipeline, Pembina and TransCanada Pipelines and provide both internal and external coatings to service this market. We have completed these services at Tank Terminals, Mainline Pipelines, Pump Stations, Compressor Stations, Gas Liquids Fractionation Plants, etc.. At these facilities we painted and coated tank external and internal components, above and below ground piping, valves, equipment, structural steel...etc..
We specialize in Integrity Digs and 100% Solids Epoxy Plural Component coatings for underground piping and equipment. Integrity Digs are critical repairs of mainline pipelines. We also provide epoxy coatings for compressor station concrete surfaces.
Refining and Petrochemicals – Downstream Market
PPC quality and safety training in addition to its Edmonton location position us well to service this market sector. Many of these central Alberta facilities are a short distance away. PPC management have many years of experience managing greenfield/brownfield construction, maintenance and turnaround work. Our Thermal Spray applications are well suited and proven to provide the corrosion protection these facilities require. We have installed these coatings in exchangers, amine towers, separators, re-boilers, contactors, etc. to provide corrosion and erosion protection for a wide variety of process conditions.
Our shop and field - blasting, painting and coating services are applied to structural, piping and equipment in the industrial sector. Our supervisors are Nace trained professionals and all must undergo both industry recognized and PPC internal supervisor safety training before they can be assigned supervisory positions.
Public Infrastructure
Bridge Construction and Repair
Zinc metalizing of bridge components is an on-site field process that thermally applies and bonds pure zinc onto steel surfaces. Zinc metalizing is used to repair damaged galvanizing or to atmospherically protect steel in place of galvanizing. The main advantage of zinc metalizing is the equipment is mobile and any size of steel substrate, large or small can be coated. Typical Bridge applications include Abutment Caps, Pier Sway Braces, Rocker Shoes, Gusset Plates, Expansion Joints and Filed Welds.
Power Generation – Coal Fired Plants
Corrosion resistance is key to maintaining Coal Fired Plant boiler up-time where corrosion from highly abrasive fly ash is considerable. PPC provides a unique thermal spray solution for wear resistance of coal fired utilities. This includes work to the Waterwall, Superheater, Reheater Tubes, Tubeshields, and I.D. Fans and Housings. We have completed this work in-situ and, where possible based on component size, in our Edmonton shop. In our Edmonton shop the coating is applied using robotically controlled high energy thermal spray which optimizes the microstructure and produces high volume, consistency and efficiency. This coating process increases wear life by up to four times.
